When space and language become one:
Research project to be performed at the Visiodrom
What is the interaction between spaces and linguistic signs? Five transdisciplinary artist collectives have tackled this research question together with students from the fields of music, dance and communication design at Folkwang University. The result is “Raumstaben, dynamische Formen der Kommunikation”, a fascinating media production. And what space would be better suited to such an immersive project than the Visiodrom in Wuppertal? There, surrounded by the huge 360-degree screen, visitors embark on a unique journey in which space and signs merge and our concept of language systems is taken to completely new dimensions. The major themes of our time, such as virtual space and artificial intelligence, are also incorporated into the production. So it’s no wonder that the audience will be confronted with a whole series of philosophical and everyday questions:
- Which signs and sign systems become possible and relevant in interactive, temporally and spatially expanded environments?
- What possibilities of interaction with language, signs, writing and their systematics open up in the virtual action space?
- Where is the threshold between a reactive system and artificial intelligence in generated speech?
- How does perception change in real spaces when these are extended by installations with unlimited generative sign environments?
The project is supported by the “Neue Künste Ruhr” grant from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The production lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. Tickets will only be sold on the evening of the event. Admission: €5
