The Johnny Tupolev Experience: the spectacular rock show at the Visiodrom

The Johnny Tupolev Experience is one thing above all: unique! The combination of music, video and space has never been seen before on this planet – the band performs their latest songs live, 360-degree surrounded by their music videos created especially for these concerts. This extraordinary concert series combines live music and breathtaking visuals with innovative audio technology and spatial experience to create a unique total work of art that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the emotional world of each individual song together with the band.

The venue – a symbiosis of music, technology and space

The band performs their songs live, 25 meters above the city in the Visiodrom, the new heart of a listed gas storage facility. The pillarless, cylindrical room with a diameter of 38 meters and a height of 47 meters is fully equipped with projection technology.
33 high-performance laser projectors cover all visible surfaces, including the ceiling, floor and Europe’s largest 360-degree screen with over 5,000 square meters (total area 6,500 square meters). This allows the audience to immerse themselves emotionally in the fast-paced world of Johnny Tupolev through the music and images, while they can move freely around the room or celebrate the experience at their seats.

The team – stars and big names:

Johnny Tupolev’s music is produced by England’s legendary producer John Fryer, who has already made bands such as Depeche Mode, Him and Nine Inch Nails big. Oscar-nominated (“Nothing New in the West”, 2023) special effects artist Frank Petzold is responsible for the impressive visuals in Johnny Tupolev. He is supported by Emmy-winning photographer, video and film artist Christoph Vitt.

The technology – Dive deeper into the audio experience:

A key facet of the Johnny Tupolev Experience is the ingenious technology behind the impressive audio concept. By combining intimate headphone music with the raw dynamics of a conventional rock concert, we emphasize the importance of deep and palpable bass. To achieve this, we use six double 18-inch basses and four bass horns in the Visiodrom, which are fitted with special 15-inch bass loudspeakers, the “low-end domes”. The focus here is on using the resonance behavior of the room and generating sound pressure in the low-frequency ranges from 20 Hz to a maximum of 110 Hz. The main focus is not on volume, but on the physical perception of the sound. Through elaborate calculations of the delays in the individual sound lines of the bass speakers and the precise adaptation of the sound to the headphones, we create an engaging listening experience. The aim is to create a feeling that literally gets under your skin and makes your whole body tremble – an undertaking that, despite some skepticism, we have succeeded in doing surprisingly well. The technical expertise allows the guests of the Johnny Tupolev Experience to immerse themselves deeply in the musical landscape and experience each song on a highly personal level.
