Game – Set – Art

From Wimbledon winner to artist Michael Stich On Monday, a special guest visited our Leonardo da Vinci exhibition: Michael Stich. Most Germans remember Michael Stich as a likeable Wimbledon tennis winner. But – and this is the really interesting thing about this extraordinary personality – he is also a true ace as an artist. After his career as a professional, Michael Stich swapped his tennis racket for a paintbrush and has been creating colorful, large-format motifs in oil and acrylic on canvas for more than 20 years. “The difference is not that big,” he says himself: “The tennis court was a given space in which I could be creative, and in the end, a canvas is too.” With this creative background, it’s no wonder that Michael Stich was enthusiastic about our da Vinci Show and the accompanying exhibition. Because he also saw the Gaskessel as a cultural venue for special events, the idea of using the Visiodrom as an exhibition and project space for his art quickly came up. In initial talks, we discussed the possibilities for a creative staging of his works. And we are looking forward to further exchanges, and will of course keep you up to date on further plans here.
