Almost as ingenious as the work
of the master himself
He still fascinates us today. Leonardo, the man from Vinci, a small town in what is now the province of Florence. “uomo universale”, the universal man, is what Leonardo da Vinci was called in Italy. He stands for the ideal image of man at the time of the Renaissance. What distinguishes him from many of his famous contemporaries such as Michelangelo, Raphael or Botticelli is his universality. He made precise observations and developed groundbreaking ideas, from painting to a wide variety of engineering arts, mathematics and anatomy. This makes him the first “uomo universale”.

SCIENCE
Strong partners for a unique project
The exhibition was accompanied academically by Dr. Hiram Kümper. He is Professor of Late Medieval and Early Modern History at the University of Mannheim. The exhibition is also supported by Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. The Department of Engineering and Mathematics there has decades of experience with the subject of Leonardo through its “DA VINCI – Moving Inventions” project. The models that can now be experienced in Wuppertal have already been the highlights of various Leonardo exhibitions in museums throughout Europe.
